In videos going viral online, music superstars Regine Velasquez and Sarah Geronimo delighted their fans with a heartfelt rendition of “Malaya,” including an “honored” Moira dela Torre, who originally sang and wrote the “hugot” hit.
Velasquez and Geronimo performed the song during a joint concert celebrating the 15th anniversary of the BPO company Convergys in the Philippines.
The event was held at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City last August 13.
The two singers took to the stage some of their greatest hits, as well as covers of well-loved OPM tunes.
In one part of the more quiet moments of the evening, Velasquez and Geronimo sat as they gave an emotion-filled performance of “Malaya.”
Velasquez quipped: “Naiyak ako, e. Sino bang sira-ulo gumawa nitong kantang ‘to? Minsan ‘tong si Moira, gusto mong pitikin, e!”
Tweeting a clip of the number, Dela Torre shared her happiness over Velasquez and Geronimo singing her composition.
She wrote: “Grabe, naiiyak ako. Sige po, pitikin niyo lang po ako, okay lang. Salamt po sa pagkanta ng ‘Malaya.’ What an honor.”
