MANILA - The suspect in the killing of a medical school dean was killed after trying to grab an officer's firearm inside a police mobile unit, police said Friday.
Police officials were traversing Alabang-Zapote Road to bring Rodelo Lava to the hospital for a medical examination when the suspect allegedly tried to grab the firearm of his escort, said Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario.
Lava was brought to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival, said Senior Superintendent Marion Balonglong, chief of Las Piñas police.
Lava was earlier nabbed by the Las Piñas City Police for illegal possession of firearms. He was also the suspect in the killing of Dr. Harivelle Charmaine Hernando, the dean of the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta’s school of medicine.
