Maring hits Quezon, to pass by Metro Manila

Tropical Depression Maring has made landfall over Mauban, Quezon as it is expected to pass by Laguna and Manila, the state weather bureau said midday Tuesday.

Maring will cross the vicinity of Manila on Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Signal No. 1 remained over the following areas: Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Northern Quezon including Polillo island, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Pangasinan, Laguna, Southern Aurora.

Maring was last spotted in the vicinity of Laguna, packing maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 100 kph.

Bicol region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Pangasinan will have moderate to heavy rains due to the tropical depression.

Sea travel remained dangerous over the eastern seaboards of Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol region.

Typhoon Lannie, meanwhile, slowed down slightly as it continued to head towards Batanes-Taiwan.
