ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Malacañang has declared Monday, November 25, as a special non-working holiday in this city and Bohol province to pave way for the holding of the special barangay elections.
Jasmine Mohammadsali of the city government information office said Presidential Proclamation No. 684 was signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III last November 13.
The barangay elections in the two areas -- Zamboanga City and Bohol -- were deferred earlier due to the 20-day standoff in this city last September and the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Bohol in October.
The declaration of the special, non-working holiday was promulgated in order to give residents the fullest opportunity to participate in the elections and exercise their right of suffrage, Mohammadsali said.
