The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has impounded 119 colorum buses and 91 colorum vans nationwide from March 23 to April 1, 2018.
Of this number, Region 4B or MIMAROPA recorded the highest number of impounded colorum buses and vans amounting to 51 and 21, respectively.
"Ito yung usual na route ng Dimple Star. Lahat ng Dimple Star buses, whether colorum or may franchise, pinahuli because of the accident," HPG director Chief Supt. Arnel Escobal said, referring to the road accident in Occidental Mindoro involving a Dimple Star bus that left 19 people dead and 21 others injured.
Escobal said the PNP-HPG stepped up operations against colorum public transportation vehicles following the order of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Following Region 4B is Region 4A or CALABARZON with 22 colorum buses and 4 colorum vans impounded.
Operators were meted a fine of P200,000 per colorum van unit and P1,000,000 per colorum bus unit.
"Yung colorum ay fault of the operator, kasi dapat bago ipatakbo yan, may prangkisa," Escobal said.
"Kapiraso palang ito. Kahit big bus companies may mga colorum units din yan. Tuluy-tuloy ang operation namin."
Meanwhile, the HPG was also able to impound 3 multicabs, a taxi and a jeepney, all lacking franchise, during the same period.
