Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi underscored the role of women in economic and social development.
Suu Kyi said more opportunities should be given to women so they can thrive in the corporate and business world.
"Measures need to be be take to empower women to overcome social constraints, strengthen their potentials and unleash economic power to contribute towards the nation's development," she said.
The Southeast Asian leader made the statement in her keynote speech at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit in Manila.
Suu Kyi did not mention anything about the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar.
