Marvel ‘Black Widow’ movie finally names its director

Marvel’s “Black Widow” stand-alone movie finally named its director in Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland.

Most prominently known for the Nazi drama “Lore,” Shortland was chosen after Marvel met with over 70 directors to find the right person for the job, according to an exclusive report by Hollywood Reporter.

The search for the ideal director lasted for half a year since the studio specifically looked for a female filmmaker to helm the project.

Shorthand’s inclusion in the selection process came from an actress fan of her work. The actress had admired Shorthand’s handling of the female lead in “Lore” and pushed her for the chance to helm “Black Widow.”

The “Black Widow” movie, starring Scarlett Johansson, will be set before the events of the first “Avengers” movie. Moviegoers will have a chance to see Black Widow work as a Russian spy before becoming part of the Avengers.
