MANILA - Temperatures in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija rose to as high as 39.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the hottest so far this year, the state weather bureau said.

The ridge of a high pressure area caused the warm and humid surrounding that was noted in the city, said PAGASA weather forecaster Lorie dela Cruz.

Previously, the hottest day this year was 39.2 degrees, recorded in Subic, Zambales on April 15.

Temperatures in Metro Manila could reach 35 degrees while temperatures in the northern town of Tuguegarao could rise to 38 degrees, said PAGASA.

There would also be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms, it added.
