Ceres punches ticket to AFC Cup Asean zone final anew

YANGON—Philippines Football League champion Ceres-Negros advanced to the AFC Cup Asean zone finals for the second straight year after beating Yangon United, 6-5, on aggregate last Wednesday.

The Busmen reached the finals despite losing the second leg to the Myanmar League side, 2-3, in an ill-tempered affair where both teams finished the match with 10 men.

Ceres midfielder Manny Ott scored in the ninth minute to cancel out Kosuke Yamazaki’s second minute goal, before Bienvenido Maranon put the Busmen on their way with a 78th minute strike.

But Maranon got sent off for taunting the home side during his goal celebration and was promptly sent off by Korean referee Ko Hyung-jin.

With Ceres down to 10 men, Yangon chased the game and the Burmese side was rewarded Aee Soe’s close range strike in the 83rd minute to make it 2-2 on the night and 4-6 on aggregate.
