Macky Cariño has been named executive volleyball director and women’s coach of University of Perpetual Help.
Cariño, who resigned as coach of College of St. Benilde’s women’s volleyball team, which he guided to a championship in the NCAA two seasons ago, will now be in charge of Perpetual Help’s volleyball program.
“I resigned to assume a bigger role, which is to handle not only the women’s volleyball team but Perpetual Help’s volleyball program as a whole,” said Cariño, who succeeded Sammy Acaylar as coach.
Acaylar, who was promoted to athletic director last year, also kept his head coaching position with the men’s team.
Acaylar has high praise for Cariño , whom he described as his ‘protégé.
“Everybody knows he (Cariño ) is my protégé and I’m confident he can do the job well, maybe even better,” said Acaylar, who is a multi-titled mentor.
Arnold Laniog will call the shots for the Lady Blazers on an interim basis.
