Adamson moves closer to first round sweep of UAAP softball

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University shut out University of the Philippines (UP), 5-0, to move closer to a first-round sweep of the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament on Monday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The Lady Falcons broke the game open in the fourth inning, thanks to Jeanette Rusia's two-run homer – her second of the season – to give the reigning seven-time champions the lead for good.

They will shoot for a six-game sweep of the first round against University of the East (UE) on Thursday at the same Malate venue.

In the other game, National University (NU) rallied past University of Santo Tomas (UST), 3-2. The Lady Bulldogs forced a three-way tie for second place along with UST and UE, as they all have 3-2 win-loss records.

The Lady Maroons absorbed their third straight loss after a 2-0 start to their campaign.

Meanwhile, De La Salle University banked on a strong showing in the fourth inning to beat Ateneo de Manila University, 8-1, for their second win in five contests.

In baseball action, Adamson stunned defending champion Ateneo, 7-3, while UST downed UP, 9-5.

The Falcons and the Growling Tigers jumped into a three-way tie for second place along with Ateneo.
