Alab Pilipinas weathered a furious 4th-quarter fightback by the Westports Malaysia Dragons to seal an 87-79 victory in the Asean Basketball League in Baliwag, Bulacan on Friday.
A go-ahead triple by Ray Parks Jr. gave Alab a 6-point breather 83-77 with 34.2 seconds to go, before his squad sealed the deal with a couple of stops.
James Hughes led the way for the Philippine-based team with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
"We knew that they got Kiwi (Gardner) and (Joshua) Munzon . . . so we just prepared for pick-and-rolls, ball screen. We know Kiwi's quick, we know how Munzon is," said Hughes.
Alab appeared headed to an easy win after putting up a 30-19 advantage midway through the 2nd quarter.
But the Dragons mounted one run after another in the 3rd that kept Alab on its toes.
Munzon's triple in the final 58 seconds made it 80-77 before Parks drained the game-winner.
