SAN PEDRO CITY – Two male suspects were charged with murder at the Batangas prosecutor’s office on Wednesday afternoon for the killing of Commission on Elections (Comelec) election officer Noel Miralles, a source who refused to be identified in the Calabarzon police on Thursday said.

However, only one of the suspected gunmen who remain at large had been identified. “There were witnesses and cctv (footage),” the source told the Inquirer.

Batangas police chief Sr. Supt. Edwin Quilates refused to comment about this development, although he said that “manhunt operations are ongoing.”

Miralles, 53, election officer of Mabini town in Batangas province was gunned down Monday evening near a shopping mall in Bauan town.

Quilates earlier said the killing was “definitely, work related” but refused to further discuss it.

Comelec officials in the region condemned the killing as a “dastardly act” and urged police to solve the crime.
