MANILA- Two foreigners were nabbed by the Bureau of Immigration at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for trying to fly to Canada illegally, the agency said Tuesday.
Kabilan Kannathashan, a Sri Lankan, and 26-year-old Emmanuel Kyeremateng from Ghana, were arrested last month at the NAIA Terminals 2 and 3 after they were caught using tampered passports in attempting to leave the country and work in Canada.
The two are currently detained at the Bureau of Immigration Detention Center in Taguig City.
Kannathashan allegedly used a Canadian passport under an assumed name while Kyeremateng used a Malta passport to hide their real identities and nationalities.
It was learned that both had approved electronic travel authorizations for their trip which apparently were acquired through fraud and misrepresentation.
The two have been charged with violation of the Philippine Immigration Act for using spurious immigration documents.
Meanwhile, Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente has ordered the deportation of the two foreigners as well as their inclusion in the immigration blacklist to prevent them from re-entering the Philippines.
